Gasunie CEO Han Fennema: Using International Hydrogen Know-how for Climate Protection
Han Fennema, Chairman of the Board of Gasunie, says in a statement in the run-up to E-world 2020, the industry meeting point of the European energy industry in Essen: "Regardless of the outcome of the ongoing discussion on the national hydrogen strategy, Gasunie, with its experience from the implementation of the Dutch hydrogen strategy, offers its readiness to continue this transformation process in Germany as well". In Germany the national hydrogen strategy is currently being discussed - the Federal Ministry of Economics presented a comprehensive proposal at the end of January, the coordination with the ministries involved is currently underway.
International cooperation and partnerships on hydrogen will play a central role in future when it comes to developing and implementing strategies for climate protection. Gasunie has important prerequisites for this: In addition to a well-developed gas infrastructure, which occupies a key position in the cross-border European energy network and can be used in future for the transport of hydrogen, Gasunie also has the right mindset when it comes to the transformation of electrons into molecules. Gasunie expects the future German hydrogen strategy to create an investment climate that meets the challenge of the task.
"We welcome the German government's intention to analyse what it will take to transition to a decarbonised energy system. The existing gas network, together with the electricity network, will play a crucial role in the energy system of the future. In the Netherlands, we have more than 20 hydrogen projects in operation or under development - and this must also be possible in Germany.
Gasunie is already working with efficient partners on relevant hydrogen projects in north-western Europe – in the green hydrogen project DJEWELS in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, which is being developed in a consortium comprising Gasunie, Nouryon and four other partners, at the North Sea Wind Power Hub, with Tennet and Energienet.dk, as well as in the ELEMENT EINS project, which Gasunie is also pursuing with Tennet and Thyssengas in Northern Germany.
Gasunie informs about her hydrogen activities über ihre Wasserstoff-Aktivitäten at the E-world 2020 (hall 2 / stand: 2-203B).
