Hanover, 03 September 2008 | Press release
“We did observe a great interest of the market regarding our tender of balancing energy for the upcoming gas year all in all”, Gasunie Deutschland CEO Jens Schumann evaluates the situation after completion of the tender process. All participants in the tender have been informed if their bids were successful. A total of 24 bidders have been registered, clearly more than in the year before. Relating to the result of the tender however, Gasunie Deutschland arrive at a different assessment.
At the flexibility product for the short term take over or provision of excessive or lacking gas volumes there were adequate bids for L-Gas. In H-Gas this quote was clearly exceeded. For the second product, the purchase and sale of balancing energy for market areas H-Gas and L-Gas Northern Germany, the results were not as satisfying as expected. So in L-Gas it was quite hard to find contractors, who submitted a quote. “Also in H-Gas the number of bids and the economic conditions were clearly below our expectations”, Michael Kleemiß, Marketing Manager of Gasunie Deutschland, says. “The stability of our pipeline system is expected to be guaranteed starting 1st October, 2008, though, we are going presumably to arrange a second tender round”, Kleemiß announces. “In advance we will discuss the tender results as well as the further procedures with the Bundesnetzagentur”, Kleemiß points outs. “We believe that some potential bidders did not participate in the tender, because they did not agree to some of the new basic conditions, as they are intended for the balancing sector”. Kleemiß refers to the point that the bidders would have preferred a capacity charge instead of commodity price. This point has been discussed already at the combined workshop of Gasunie Deutschland, Erdgas Münster Transport and EWE Netz by the beginning of August. Then the companies presented the subject of purchasing balancing energy to the market.
Both international as well as national gas trading companies participated in the tender of balancing energy. Beside them, also a number of municipal utilities participated for the first time.
In recent decades, Gasunie Deutschland have set up an efficient pipeline network of around 3,100 kilometres. In total, Gasunie Deutschland employ about 210 employees. Because of its geographical location in the north of Germany, Gasunie's transport network takes on the function of a turntable in the European natural gas transit system, from north to south and from east to west.
Gasunie Deutschland is an affiliate of N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie with headquarters in Hanover as of 1. July 2008.
