Gasunie's natural gas network
Every year, billions of cubic metres of natural gas flow through Gasunie’s long-distance pipeline network, which runs over a length of around 3,200 kilometres through Northern Germany - high-tech under ground. Irrespective of whether the natural gas comes from German storage facilities or from the Netherlands, Russia, Norway or Denmark, we ensure that its transport within the complex system functions faultlessly. Networks guarantee reliability of supply
To transport the natural gas we operate a highly efficient high-pressure pipeline network of around 3,200 kilometres in length, which is designed for the separate transport of natural gas with high and low calorific value. In order to be able to offer our customers reliable transport of natural gas at all times, we can make use of our widely-branched network of pipelines, control centres, compressor and transfer stations. Natural gas can be fed into our transport network at 14 different points at 32 entry-points (5 cross-border stations). Transfer takes place at around 179 delivery stations. Eight compressor stations with a total of 23 compressor units ensure reliable transport of the gas. The central control of the transported quantities of gas is carried out by our experts in the Schneiderkrug control centre. Gasunie can rely on powerful process computer systems in carrying out this task. Our control centre is the world’s most modern natural gas monitoring and control facility.
Since natural gas is used in two different qualities in Germany, our pipeline system is designed for the separate transport of natural gas with high and low calorific value. Natural gas with a high calorific value is referred to as H-gas and gas with a low calorific value is referred to as L-gas.
